Man in Custody - Taxi Assault

Police

Serious Crime Detectives have arrested a 21-year-old man in relation to an assault on a taxi driver yesterday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Board from the Serious Crime Squad said the incident occurred around 4:00am on Sunday morning.

“It was reported that the 35-year-old taxi driver collected four passengers from Gilruth Avenue and drove them to Annear Court in Tipperary Waters,” Detective Senior Sergeant Board said.

“Upon arriving at the location, it is alleged an altercation occurred over the continuation of the fare to the northern suburbs. The driver was punched several times to the face before falling to the ground where he was kicked to the body by the man.

“The driver received facial injuries and was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment.

“Investigations identified a 21-year-old man who was located this morning and remains in Police custody assisting with enquiries.

“I urge anyone who may have been in Annear Court at the time of the incident to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
