Man charged for unlawful entries - Alice Springs

Police have charged an 18-year-old man with numerous offences following a spate of unlawful entries in Alice Springs recently.

Detective Senior Sergeant Travis Wurst of the Southern Investigation Section said the man allegedly unlawfully entered Hourglass Jewellery in the Alice Plaza on 13 June.

“Police allege the 18-year-old, in the company of others, entered the store around 10:30pm and stole up to $20,000 worth of jewellery,” Detective Senior Sergeant Wurst said.

“Good Police work led to the identification of the alleged offender and it was soon established he had also been involved in a number of other unlawful entries throughout the town. AUSURV Pty Ltd was unlawfully entered and had approximately $50,000 worth of surveying equipment stolen back in February.

“Police also seized a cross bow and a commercial grade slingshot, believed to have been purchased with cash stolen from a business premises on Elders Street in April.

“Items worth $70,000 have been recovered and the man has been charged with unlawful entry (x4), damage property (x4) and stealing (x5). He has been bailed to appear in the Alice Springs Court on 28 June 2012.

“A 14-year-old male youth is also alleged to have been involved in a number of the incidents and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

“Being able to get this property back for the owners is a great result and I would like to thank members of the public for their assistance.”
