Man Charged – Taxi Assault

Police

Serious Crime Detectives have charged a 21-year-old man following an assault on a taxi driver on Sunday morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Board from the Serious Crime Squad said the man allegedly assaulted a taxi driver in Annear Court, Tipperary Waters early on Sunday morning.

“It is alleged an altercation occurred over the taxi fare at around 4:00am, which resulted in the driver receiving injuries to his face and body,” Detective Senior Sergeant Board said.

“CCTV footage assisted in the identification of the alleged offender along with the other occupants of the taxi.

“This resulted in Detectives executing a search warrant on the alleged offender’s house yesterday, locating a quantity of unsecured firearm ammunition.

“The 21-year-old was arrested and has been charged with unlawfully causing serious harm and failing to meet storage requirements. He has been bailed to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court on 18 September.

“I continue to urge anyone who may have been in Annear Court at the time of the incident to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
