Man Charged with Recklessly Endangering Life - Darwin

Police

A 23-year-old Tennant Creek man will appear in court today facing charges of recklessly endangering life following an incident in Parap.

Acting Senior Sergeant Graeme Wheeler said the incident occurred at around 7:30 yesterday morning.

“It appears two men, both aged 23, had been drinking before an argument occurred whilst they were travelling in a vehicle along Parap Road,” Acting Senior Sergeant Graeme Wheeler said.

“It is alleged the victim assaulted the driver with a steering wheel lock and then ran from the vehicle and sheltered behind a fence.

“The driver drove the vehicle directly at the victim several times, crashing through a steel mesh fence.

“Police attended the scene and arrested the driver. Whilst surveying the area, members located four cartons of spirits in the back of the crashed vehicle. Upon further investigation, it was established that the alcohol had been stolen the previous night from the Wayside Inn in Hayes Creek.”

The driver has been charged with:

Recklessly endangering life
Recklessly endangering serious harm
Unlawful entry/stealing
Criminal damage
Traffic related offences.

“This is a serious incident and both men are lucky to have escaped without injury.”
