Man Charged over House Fire - Arson - Driver

Police

A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged by Serious Crime Squad Detectives over a house fire in Driver.

Last night the man was charged with arson in relation to a fire which destroyed a two-storey house in Widdup Crescent on Wednesday 27 June 2012.

Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Board of the Serious Crime Squad said this senseless act could have ended in tragedy if anyone had been inside the house at the time of the fire.

“Now the owners of the property are left to pick up the pieces and they are understandably very distraught” said Detective Senior Sergeant Board.

“The male has been remanded in custody over the weekend to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court on Monday morning.

“I would like to thank the public who provided information relating to this matter and urge anyone else with any information to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.”
