Man Charged for Assault Police – Alice Springs

An 18-year-old man is to appear in the Alice Springs Court next month following the assault of a Police Officer.

Acting Senior Sergeant Conan Robertson said Police attended the North Side shops on the Stuart Highway at approximately 8:30 pm on Thursday 22 March.

“Police located an 18-year-old man in a highly intoxicated state. Members attempted to place the man into the back of the Police vehicle however he resisted,” Acting Senior Sergeant Robertson said.

“It is alleged that a small amount of blood from the man’s hand was smeared across the face of the female officer, before he grabbed her by the collar.

“The other attending Officer apprehended the male and, after a short struggle, placed the man into the back of the vehicle.”

He was charged with:

Assault a member of the Police Force
Attempt to escape lawful custody
Resist Police in execution of duty
Possess thing – administer dangerous drug
Disorderly behaviour in a public place
Disorderly behaviour in a Police station
Furnish a false name
Breach of good behaviour bond.

 

He was remanded in custody and is to appear in court 12 April 2012.
