Man Charged with Aggravated Assault – Tennant Creek

Police

Police have arrested a 46-year-old man in relation to an aggravated assault in Tennant Creek.

Acting Superintendent Craig Barrett of the Tennant Creek and Barkly Division said a 31-year-old woman had been beaten with a branch on Peko Road at around 9:20 last night.

“The victim and a number of others were drinking at a residence on Peko Road when they were approached by the 46-year-old,” A/Supt Barrett said.

“It is alleged the man asked for a sip of alcohol, but when the woman refused, he became enraged and broke a branch off a nearby tree and assaulted her with it. He kicked the woman in the head multiple times as she was lying on the ground.

“The victim was taken to Tennant Creek Hospital. The offender has been charged with aggravated assault and armed with an offensive weapon at night and has been bailed to appear in Tennant Creek Court on Tuesday 17 April 2012.”
