Man Arrested for Assault on Tourist - Alice Springs

Police have charged an Alice Springs man with aggravated assault after he allegedly punched a tourist in the head several times.

Police allege the 21-year-old approached the German national as he walked along Stuart Terrace at about 1.45pm yesterday. The man then allegedly grabbed the male tourist in a headlock and punched him six to 10 times.

Senior Sergeant Siiri Tennosaar said the 23-year-old received swelling and bruising to the face.

“He was not taken to hospital but he did receive medical attention,” Senior Sergeant Tennosaar said.

“The man was charged with aggravated assault and bailed to appear in court in Alice Springs on 29 March 2012.”
