Man Arrested for Aggravated Assault - Nhulunbuy

Police

A 40-year-old man is due to appear in court next month after allegedly brandishing a knife at paramedics in Nhulunbuy.

Senior Sergeant Roger Ilett said the incident occurred at around 9:40 pm on Tuesday.

“It was reported that two St John Ambulance staff drove to Franklyn Street to assist a man with a sore foot,” Senior Sergeant Ilett said.

“They attempted to put the man into the back of the ambulance and were approached by another man who tried to enter the back of the vehicle.

“It is alleged that the second man became angry and produced a 20cm knife. The male paramedic was threatened with the weapon before retreating into the vehicle.

“Police attended the location and arrested the alleged offender. He has been charged with aggravated assault and a number of other offences and bailed to appear in the Nhulunbuy Court on 3 April 2012.”
