House Fire - Driver

Police

Police have apprehended a 23-year-old male this morning in relation to a house fire in Driver.

Police and NT Fire and Rescue members were quick to attend the house in Widdup Crescent following a report of a house fire around 11.30pm last night.

Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Board of the Serious Crime Squad said it is believed an upstairs room in the two-storey house had been set alight and the house engulfed in flames within a short time.

“Thankfully no one was home at the time,” Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Board said.

“Shortly after the fire had been lit, neighbours witnessed three young males of Aboriginal appearance fleeing the scene.

“Prior to the incident, Police attended reports of a disturbance at the residence between the alleged offender and a 30-year-old female.

“The man remains in Police custody and is assisting with enquiries.

“I would urge anyone with any information to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
