Hooning Seizure - Katherine

Police

A 19 year-old man has had his car seized by Katherine Police after a hooning incident on a busy Katherine street.

General Duty Officers observed the white Holden ute approach a roundabout on the corner of Lindsay and First Streets and noted the man did not indicate when exiting onto Lindsay Street before allegedly ‘fishtailing’ the ute at speed away from the intersection.

Officers apprehended the man who allegedly told them the car had been recently ‘hotted up’

Further investigation of the vehicle revealed the front two tyres were different sizes to the rear wheels and the gear shaft was found to be faulty.  A defect notice was subsequently placed on the vehicle.

Acting Senior Sergeant Serge Bouma said this sort of irresponsible behaviour by drivers will not be tolerated by Police.

“At 6.30 in the evening the area is quite busy with people going about their business and this young man is very lucky he did not cause harm to himself or any innocent bystander as a result of his actions.”

The car will be impounded for 48 hours under anti –hooning legislation.  Any subsequent hooning charges will result in a summons and possible forfeiture of the vehicle.
