Groote Eylandt Police Arrest Five

A spate of property offences in the town of Alyangula has resulted in the arrests of five men after Police investigations.

Senior Sergeant Tony Deutrom, Officer in Charge of the Alyangula Police station said his officers worked tirelessly in tracking down and charging the men for a number of offences.

“The unlawful entries and motor vehicle offences are disappointing, even more so when all of the matters were directly linked to the offenders seeking access to alcohol.”

“Between January 28th and the 8th of February we had a series of crimes committed in the town and Police would like to thank the members of the public who assisted us in our investigations.   Information and prompt action by officers will now see the offenders face court as a result.”

Senior Sergeant Deutrom said a 15 year-old was arrested in relation to an attempted unlawful entry at the Alyangula Golf Club. He is being considered for youth diversion.

An 18 year old male was arrested in relation to an attempted & unlawful entry at the Alyangula Golf Club, along with an unlawful use of a motor vehicle and interfere with a motor vehicle.  He has been charged and bailed to appear at the Alyangula Magistrates Court.

A 21 year old male was arrested in relation to an attempted unlawful entry at the Alyangula Golf Club and an Unlawful entry at the Gemco Training Facility.  Police Bail was refused and he has been remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court.

An 18 year old male was arrested in relation to an unlawful entry at the Gemco Training Facility.  He also had unrelated warrants.  Police bail was refused and he was remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court.

A 23 year old male was arrested in relation to an unlawful entry and stealing at a private residence in Alyangula.  The man was also charged with Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle.  Police bail was refused and he was remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court.
