Floodwaters Recede at Palumpa and Peppimenarti

Police

A break in the weather has allowed authorities to evaluate Palumpa and Peppimenarti as rising floodwaters from recent heavy rain threatened the communities.

“Initial reports suggest up to 20 houses in Palumpa have received varying degrees of inundation – from front yards being flooded through to water entering houses.” Said Superintendent Danny Bacon.

“Fortunately water levels have receded over the last few hours and are expected to continue to do so.”

“The community still has power and water and the local store has enough food for two to three weeks.”

“People are in high spirits and are taking the flooding event in their stride.” Said Supt Bacon.

“As the weather continues to improve, the exact number of houses that had floodwater run through them will be verified.”

“It’s a similar story in Peppimenarti, where despite almost 700mm of rain recorded in the rain gauge at the local Police Station since Tuesday, no properties have been flooded.”

“There were a few anxious moments, but effectively flood waters are receding there too and the flood threat has now passed.”
