Firearms Stolen - Update - Darwin

Police

Northern Territory Police have recovered the weapons stolen from a navy patrol boat moored at HMAS Coonawarra on Thursday night.

The two shotguns and 12 handguns were stolen from the vessel after a duty seaman was overpowered and the armoury accessed.

“Detectives for the Major and Serious Crime Squads along with members of the TRG, raided a Darwin city unit about half-past-two this afternoon and recovered all of the outstanding weapons.” Said Commander Richard Bryson of the Crime and Specialist Support Command.

“One man is currently in Police custody and the investigation is continuing as to the contextual circumstances surrounding the theft of the weapons.”

“This is a significant result for the NT Police and the community to recover these weapons and remove them from the streets so quickly. I commend all the Officers involved with this investigation for working around the clock to achieve such a positive outcome.” Said Commander Bryson.
