Firearms Stolen - Darwin - Update #1

A 40-year-old man will appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court tomorrow, charged in relation to the weapons theft at HMAS Coonawarra on Thursday night.

The man was taken into custody after Officers from the Major and Serious Crime Squads, as well as members of the TRG, raided a Darwin City unit yesterday afternoon.

The two shotguns and 12 stolen handguns were all recovered during the raid.

“The 40-year-old man has today been formally charged with one count of receiving stolen property, two counts of possessing a prohibited firearm and 12 counts of possessing a firearm without a license.” Said Commander Richard Bryson from the Crime and Specialist Support Command.

“He’s been remanded in custody and will appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court tomorrow, Monday the 3rd of December 2012.”

“Investigations are continuing into how the 40-year-old alleged offender came into possession of the stolen weapons.” Said Cmdr Bryson.

“Detectives are following numerous lines of inquiry in an effort to bring all those people involved in the theft before the courts.”
