Fatal Rollover - Alice Springs

The Territory road toll has risen to 34 following a fatal rollover on the Stuart Highway north of Alice Springs this afternoon.

Senior Sergeant Peter Malley said it appears a man in a 4x4 was towing another vehicle when the incident occurred approximately 15km north of Alice Springs.

“At around 1:30pm it appears the man attempted to overtake a road train and has lost control causing the vehicles to roll,” Senior Sergeant Malley said.

“Police, Fire and Rescue and St John Ambulance members attended however the male was declared deceased at the scene.

“A female passenger was conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital and remains in a stable condition.

“Police will conduct an investigation into the exact cause of the crash and a file will be prepared for the Coroner.”

This takes the NT road toll to 34 compared to 23 for the same period last year.
