Police

The road toll now stands at 25 following the death of a 50-year-old woman in Wadeye.

Detective Senior Sergeant Clinton Sims said the incident occurred on Tuesday 31 July at around 9:30pm.

“The woman, along with six others, was travelling in a Toyota Landcruiser along Port Keats road between the Peppimenarti and Palumpa turnoffs, when the incident occurred,” Detective Senior Sergeant Sims said.

“The woman is believed to have fallen from the back of the moving vehicle and sustained serious injuries. She was conveyed to Palumpa Community Health Clinic and declared deceased.

“The driver was breath tested and returned a negative reading.

“An investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the crash is continuing and a file will be prepared for the Coroner.”

This now takes the NT road toll to 25 compared to 20 for the same period last year.
