Fatal Crash - Victoria Highway, Katherine

Police

The Northern Territory road toll has risen to 33 following a rollover on the Victoria Highway this afternoon.

Northern Watch Commander, Senior Sergeant Greg Pusterla said Police received the report of a rollover on the Victoria Highway, approximately 95 kilometres east of Katherine, just after 3:00 pm.

“Initial investigations suggest the Toyota Landcruiser was travelling towards Timber Creek from Katherine when it attempted to overtake a road train. The vehicle has then rolled several times before coming to a stop on the roof, approximately 15 metres from the road.

“As a result of the crash the 38-year-old female driver has died. A 34-year-old male, a seven-year-old girl and a one-year-old boy have been transported to Katherine Hospital by St John Ambulance for treatment. It is believed the two children were uninjured in the crash.

“Police investigations to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing,” said Senior Sergeant Pusterla.

This now takes the Territory road toll to 33 compared to 23 for the same period last year.
