A motorcyclist has died as a result of a two vehicle collision in Cossack, approximately 10 km outside of Katherine this afternoon.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant John Worrall of the Major Crash Investigation Section said it appears the motorcycle has crashed into a Holden utility near the entrance to Phoenix Park on Florina Road at around 3:30pm.

“Police, NT Fire and Rescue and St John Ambulance members attended the scene and located the male deceased at the scene,” Senior Sergeant Worrall said.

“The male driver of the other vehicle escaped uninjured.

“Police have blocked off Florina Road as investigators attend the scene.

“Police will investigate to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash however at this stage, it is believed excessive speed was a contributing factor in the crash.”

This now takes the Territory road toll to 15 compared to 9 for the same period last year.
