Detectives are currently investigating the death of an adult male following the discovery of a body late yesterday afternoon at the foot of the cliffs on the Esplanade.

Police were alerted at about 4.40pm that there was a person lying in shallow water in the area below the USS Peary memorial.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Bradley Currie said Police are in the process of identifying the victim and establishing the circumstances surrounding his death.

“An autopsy will be completed later today to determine the cause of death.  We will wait until the results of that before making any further comment.”
