Drugs Located - Katherine

Police

Detectives from the Northern Investigation Section in Katherine today seized just over two kilograms of cannabis.

The drugs were seized after they were located secreted in scrubland just south of the town.

Detective Senior Sergeant Clint Sims said the stashed drugs would have realised a total value of at least $100,000 if they had been sold in street sized deals.

"It is not just the health impact on the community members or the profits that would have been gained which concern us, it is also the economic impact that the large amount of money will have leaving the local community,” Detective Sims said.

“Police found the drugs after a tip off from a member of the public who found them when walking his dogs in the area early this morning.

“This will most certainly dent the pockets of the person intent to profit from this illicit trade.

“NT Police appreciate the excellent assistance provided by members of the public who share our concerns and provide valuable information about these illegal substances.

“If anyone has any information in relation to these or other drug matters please call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
