Police are investigating the death of a 64-year-old Adelaide man at Bitter Springs, Mataranka, early this morning.

Acting Superintendent Kylie Proctor said it appeared the man and a number of family and friends were swimming at the springs when he experienced difficulties at around 8:00am.

“Nearby swimmers helped pull the man from the water, however he was unconscious before he back got to shore,” Acting Superintendent Proctor said.

“Mataranka Health Clinic members attended the scene and conducted CPR however the man was declared deceased at the scene.

“A post mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”
