NT Police are calling for public assistance after a saltwater crocodile was found dead in Maningrida on Monday.

NT Police are calling for public assistance after a saltwater crocodile was found dead in Maningrida on Monday.

Senior Constable Rebecca O’Brien said the crocodile was discovered by Police at Man River Crossing, approximately 60 kilometres from the community.

“One of our members made the gruesome discovery while travelling back to the community on Monday afternoon.

“It appears as though the crocodile was shot dead. The tail of the crocodile had been cut off and its mouth was propped open with a stick,” said Senior Constable O’Brien.

NT Police are working in conjunction with Parks and Wildlife and members of the public are reminded that it is an offence under the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act to take or interfere with protected wildlife, including crocodiles.
