Children indecently assaulted - Alice Springs

Detectives from the Southern Investigations Division are calling for public assistance after two children were in indecently assaulted inside their home in The Gap yesterday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Travis Wurst said an unknown man allegedly unlawfully entered a unit on South Terrace at approximately 2:00 am.

“While the man was inside the unit, it is alleged he entered the room of an eight-year-old girl and climbed into bed with her, where he then indecently assaulted her,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Wurst.

“The girl woke up and questioned the man and he then left the room. It is alleged he then entered the room of an 11-year-old boy and climbed into his bed, where he then indecently assaulted him.

“During this time, the eight-year-old girl has alerted her mother, who then confronted the man and chased him out of the unit.

“The man was last seen jumping over the fence and heading towards The Gap area.

“The man is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, approximately 30 – 40 years old, about 172 centimetres tall, skinny/thin build, with grey and black stubble on his chin and short brown hair. He is described as having very distinctive wide/large eyes.

“He was wearing a plain white t-shirt and light grey pants, possibly light coloured jeans.

“An extensive investigation is underway and Investigators are using all available resources, including forensic testing, to apprehend the alleged offender.”
