CCTV Operator Captures Violent Theft on Camera - Darwin City

Detectives from the Serious Crime Squad have one woman in custody and are chasing another offender in relation to a violent robbery in the city overnight.

Around 4.30am a CCTV camera operator in the Territory Communications Centre noticed a male whom appeared to be asleep at a taxi rank in Mitchell Street, and entered a task for Police to check on his welfare. 

Whilst keeping an eye on the male, the operator witnessed a female approach the male, reach into one of his pockets, appearing to remove his wallet, at which point the victim awoke, and gave chase along Mitchell Street.

Detective Senior Constable Max Lisson of the Serious Crime Squad said Police have the co-offender in custody and are closing in on the alleged primary offender.

"We have identified the offender through witness statements and interrogating CCTV vision, and expect to apprehend her very soon.

Serious Crime Detectives expect to charge one woman later today with;       

Robbery in Company; Recklessly Endangering Serious Harm; and Make False Declaration

“Our investigation into the location of the primary offender continues, but we are confident we will have her in custody before too long,” concluded Detective Senior Constable Lisson.
