Call for witnesses - Transit Security Officer Assault - Darwin

Police

Police are calling on witnesses to an assault which occurred on two Transit Security Officers on Saturday, 28 January.

Detective Sergeant Len Turner of the General Crime Section said the incident occurred outside the Darwin Showgrounds at around 6:40 pm.

“Four passengers boarded the 159 bus in Darwin City and began yelling and causing a disturbance,” Detective Sergeant Turner said.

“The bus was stopped on the Stuart Highway as Transit Security Officers were called. Upon arriving at the location, they boarded the bus and removed a 49-year-old male. An altercation occurred, resulting in the two Transit Security Officers receiving minor injuries.

“Police attended and arrested the four offenders, two males aged 49 and 48 and two females aged 45 and 48. They have all been charged with serious assault and aggravated assault.

“We believe there was a male on the bus filming the incident with a mobile phone and we would particularly like to speak to him. Anyone else who may have been on that particular bus, or nearby at the time of the incident, is also urged to contact Police on 131 444.”
