Call for witnesses – Todd Mall Assault – Alice Springs

Police have arrested a 16-year-old male youth in relation to an assault which occurred in the Todd Street Mall.

Detective Senior Sergeant Travis Wurst of the Southern Investigations Division said the incident occurred around 7:20pm last night.

“It was reported to us that a male aged 20 and a 55-year-old female were assaulted by a youth with a stick near the south end of the Todd Mall,” Detective Senior Sergeant Wurst said.

“Another man, a 28-year-old, contacted Police stating he’d also been assaulted by a group of indigenous youths whilst riding his bike through the Mall.

“Police attended the scene and arrested the 16-year-old. He’s been charged with:

  • Assault – Threaten with a firearm/weapon
  • Breach of order for release on bond
  • Going armed in public
  • Engage in violent conduct
  • Furnish a false name to a member.

“Police are continuing to investigate the incident and believe three other youths may have been involved in the assaults.

“I urge anyone who may have been in the area at the time and may have seen the group, or who may have witnessed either of the assaults, to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
