Attempted sexual assault - Darwin - Update 2

Detectives from the Sex Crimes Division have charged a 40-year-old man in relation to the alleged sexual assault of two women in Darwin on Friday.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Kieran Wells said the man was arrested in Nhulunbuy yesterday afternoon.

“Detectives from the Sex Crimes Division travelled to Nhulunbuy this morning to interview the man and he was later charged with:

  • Attempted sexual assault
  • Deprivation of liberty
  • Make threat to kill
  • Indecent assault
  • 2 x aggravated assault

“The man received Magistrates bail and will appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court on Tuesday 20 November 2012.

“The information we received from members of the public, as a direct result of social media, has been crucial in this investigation.

“I would like to thank members of the public for their assistance; no matter how small the piece of information, it all helps build a bigger picture. Once again social media has proven to be a valuable tool and this is a great outcome for the Community and Police," said Detective A/Senior Sergeant Wells.
