An 18-year-old man has been charged with assault Police following an incident in Alice Springs early this morning.

Senior Sergeant Wayne Jenkinson said it is alleged the man was causing a disturbance at around 1:00 am outside a hotel on Gap Road when Police were called.

“It was reported to Police that a man was attempting to enter a hotel room, yelling at the two female occupants inside to let him in,” Senior Sergeant Jenkinson said.

“Police attended moments later and located the man loitering in the car park near the room.

“Whilst escorting the man out of the hotel grounds, the man allegedly punched a male Police Officer in the face. He was arrested and charged with assault Police and is to appear in the Alice Springs later today.”
