Ngukurr Police have arrested a 21 year-old man in relation to a house fire that occurred in the community in July.

Police will allege the man deliberately lit a mattress in a bedroom of the house following a dispute.

Senior Sergeant Clint Sims from the Northern Investigation section said the man had been avoiding Police until his arrest yesterday morning.

“The actions of this individual could have had tragic consequences.  We are thankful the three other people in the house at the time were able to get out without injury.”

The man has been charged with unlawfully set fire to a building, damage property, aggravated assault and recklessly endanger life.  He has been summonsed to appear in the Ngukurr Magistrates Court on December the 11th
