Arrest, Charges over Stolen Cigarette Haul

Police

Detectives have arrested a 27 year-old man after a search warrant uncovered several boxes of cigarettes, worth more than $20,000, from an address in Karama.

Police will allege the cigarettes were stolen from an address near East Arm Wharf on the night of April 11th.

Senior Constable First Class Alan Brown from the Casuarina Tactical Team said several other items suspected to be stolen property were also seized during execution of the warrant.

“Several boxes of cigarettes destined to leave on a barge were stolen and have subsequently been recovered.  It has been a prompt and successful investigation by all involved.”

The man was charged this morning with Possess Stolen Property and has been remanded to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court on Monday.

Police expect more charges to be laid.
