Armed Man - Alice Springs

Police

A 44-year-old man is due to appear in court this morning facing charges of possessing a controlled weapon in a public place.

Detective Superintendent Brent Warren said Police received a report from a member of the public about a man waving a knife in the carpark of the Alice Springs Post Office at around 1:30pm on Saturday.

“Police attended the location and restrained the man after he failed to comply with the officer’s commands and failed to remove his hands from his pockets,” Detective Superintendent Warren said.

“As Police apprehended the man a 15 centimetre knife fell from the offender’s pocket.

“Police were able to quickly attend the location and identify the offender due to the precise and accurate description provided by the member of the public who phoned Police.”
