Alleged Drug Runner Intercepted on Highway

Police

Drug and Organised Crime Detectives have arrested a 34 year-old man following a routine drug operation south of Katherine.

Northern Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk Officers and Drug Squad Members intercepted a vehicle 12 kilometres south of the town at about 1am this morning.

Drug detection dog Archie reacted to a suitcase inside the vehicle where Police allegedly found 1,816 grams of cannabis and a commercial quantity of steroids.

Superintendent Peter Schiller of the Drug and Organised Crime Squad said that Police will continue to target those who attempt to transport drugs into the NT.

“We are achieving excellent results utilising the Drug Detection Dogs and this should serve as a reminder to people wanting to profit from the sale of illegal drugs that they can expect to see Police at any time of the day or night.

“Expect us when you least expect us.”  Superintendent Schiller warned.

The man will front the Katherine Magistrates Court this afternoon.

Anyone who has any information in regard to the transportation or sale of drugs in the Northern Territory is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or contact Police on 131 444
