Alice Springs Police and Tangentyere Council have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in an effort to forge greater co-operative arrangements.

As part of the Building Stronger Communities initiative, a commitment was made to enhance engagement and co-operation between Police and patrolling services.

“The MOU I have signed with The Chief Executive Officer of Tangentyere, Mr Walter Shaw, is designed for the agencies to work together to increase community safety.” said Commander Michael Murphy.

“The agencies will support each other on emerging issues. New Police recruits to Alice Springs will also undergo training to gain a better understanding of patrol services, family relationships, social structures and community demographics in Alice.” Said Cmdr Murphy.

“This MOU will forge greater ties, respect and understanding of each agency’s role and responsibilities and be used to build bridges within the community.”

“Policing and Community patrolling work hand in hand to ensure a safer community through a good working relationship. Both agencies will assist in ensuring that we build upon a stronger community and its social fabric.” Said Mr Shaw
