A 20-year-old male is to appear in court today following an assault which occurred in Palmerston on Sunday.
Superintendent James O’Brien from the Crime Division said the incident occurred in Bakewell at around 5:00am.
“Police will allege that the 20-year-old man was involved in an argument with a 19-year-old woman at a unit in Creed Court, resulting in the man being locked out of the premises” Superintendent O’Brien said.
“The man has then allegedly picked up a nearby gas bottle and smashed his way into the premises, grabbing the woman and dragging her several hundred metres to a nearby vacant block before allegedly assaulting her.”
“The woman left the area and flagged down a passing Police patrol on Lambrick Avenue. A short time later Police located and arrested the man.
“Upon interviewing the woman, it was alleged the man had held the woman against her will whilst drink driving in Berrimah early on Saturday morning.
“During this time, it is alleged he struck a passing vehicle and continued driving.”
The man has been charged with:
- Assault a female – offender a male
- Aggravated enter a dwelling intent commit offence
- Deprive a person of personal liberty
- Breach of parole
- Unlawful use of a motor vehicle
- Drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed
- Drive under influence of intoxicating liquor
- Not stop or assist after a crash
- Drive vehicle in a manner dangerous
He was remanded in Police custody and is to appear in the Darwin Magistrate’s Court today.
