Aged Pensioners Christmas Party – 43 years on

Police

Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service (NTFRS) will again be hosting the annual Aged Pensioners Christmas Party. It marks the 43rd consecutive year in which the event has been held.

NTFRS Members will hit the streets from Thursday 08 November, with red buckets in hand hoping to raise money for the Christmas Party.

The event started in December 1970 and was the brain child of Station Commander Brian Chong Wee OBE, a NTFRS member who served for more than 30 years.

The number of aged pensioners has swelled from a meagre 30 at the first event to an expected 500 for this year’s event.

The festivities are set to occur from 11:00 am on Sunday 16 December at the Kalymnos Club, Marrara.

District Officer Mark Spain said he hopes this year’s party will bring together Darwin’s Aged Pensioner community to begin celebrating the festive season.

“We are hoping that the 43rd Anniversary of the event is even bigger and better than it has been in previous years.

“Their will be a colourful assortment of food at the venue as well as free buses to pick up and return home all would-be party-goers that wish to attend,” District Officer Spain said.
