Youths arrested for stolen cars

A 17-year-old male youth has been arrested after allegedly stealing a car last night.

In the early evening of Saturday 8 December a 17-year-old male unlawfully entered an unlocked home in Bukatilla Street in Eaton. The youth then removed a set of car keys from the kitchen of the house and stole a corresponding vehicle, a Suzuki Grand Vitara which was parked in the car port.

Patrolling officers were alerted to the incident and located the stolen vehicle driving through the Casuarina area.

Officers followed the car through several streets, before the driver parked the car on Budgen Street in Moil and fled the vehicle, running through residential backyards.

Police conducted a foot search of the area, subsequently locating and arresting the male a short time later.

He has been charged with numerous offences including:

Aggravated unlawful entry with intent to commit crime
Unlawful use of a motor vehicle valued over $20,000
Stealing
Fail to comply with police direction
Drive Speed/Manner Dangerous
And a number of traffic offences
The youth has been remanded in detention to appear in the Darwin Youth Justice Court Tuesday 11 January 2011.

On Saturday evening police arrested a 13-year-old male for unlawful use of a motor vehicle. The youth stole a white Mazda from Progress Drive Nightcliff and took the car on a joy ride around the Northern Suburbs. The car was stopped by Police in Nakara. The youth ran from the car and was arrested by Casuarina Police Officers.

The youth was remanded in detention to appear in the Darwin Youth Justice Court on Tuesday 11 January 2011.

Several hours later, at approximately 2:30 am on Saturday, it was reported that sometime during the evening offender/s walked into an unlocked house in Millner, rummaged through a handbag and stole a set of car keys.

A Subaru Impreza was also stolen from the house and located a short time later at a block of flats in Fannie Bay. A 15-year-old male youth was arrested at the location in relation to the theft.

Territory Duty Superintendent Del Jones said "Every one needs to be mindful of home security. You must remember to lock your home and your vehicles and don't make your property an inviting target for thieves".
