Youths arrested - Palmerston

Police

Members from the General Crime Section, with the assistance of Palmerston Tactical Team and Palmerston General Duties members, have arrested two male youths aged 15 and 14 in relation to a taxi robbery in Moulden yesterday.

At approximately 3:00 am, a taxi driver was approached by four youths who wanted to be taken to Coconut Grove.

It is alleged that when the 29-year-old taxi driver requested the fare in advance, the youths attacked him through the window and demanded money.

The taxi driver handed over an amount of money, but the youths demanded more and smashed the front windscreen with a rock. It is alleged the youths then attacked the driver and stabbed him a number of times with an unidentified small object.

The youths stole an amount of money, a mobile phone and sunglasses before running from the area.

The taxi driver was taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital but has since been discharged.

The two youths have been charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, damage property and stealing.

Senior Sergeant Garry Smith said this was an excellent result for the NT Police and more importantly, closure for the taxi driver who was subjected to a nasty assault whilst going about his daily business.

“NT Police strive to keep our community safe and this arrest is an example of the professional and quick thinking of our officers.

“The quick identification and actions by members resulted in the quick apprehension of these offenders, it is a great result for police and the community,” he said.
