Youth Disturbance - Darwin

NT Police are calling for public assistance after a 43-year-old male was assaulted and a car and scooter were damaged during a disturbance in Nightcliff this morning.

At approximately 2:30 am, police were called to a disturbance on Aralia Street in Nightcliff.

It is alleged that after a community party had finished, the victim approached a group of five or more youths and asked them to vacate the area.

After a short verbal confrontation, the group of youths set upon the victim in a car park. The victim was punched and kicked to the ground, before being hit over the head with a glass bottle.

The man ran to a near by residence to seek refuge. He was subsequently followed by the youths, who attempted to enter the residence, however they were unsuccessful. The youths then caused damage to a scooter that was parked at the residence by pushing it over.

The youths then proceeded to yell out threats before returning to the victims Toyota Kluger and stealing various items and vandalising the outside of the vehicle.

The group are described as being of African appearance and approximately 16 - 17 years of age.

Police urge anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area, or who may have any witnessed the incidents, to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
