Police are appealing to the public for assistance after two incidents on the North Stuart Highway last week.

In the first incident, which occurred on Wednesday night just after 10pm, police received a report that a 23-year-old woman was  assaulted by a man as she was walking home alone near the Caltex  Service Station on the North Stuart Highway. A passer-by stopped to help the woman and reported the incident to police.

In a second  incident, police received a  report  just after 3.45am on Sunday that  a man grabbed an 18-year-old woman by the wrists as she was walking home alone near the CLC building. She managed to fight him off and he fled.

Detective Senior Constable Deanne Ward said  police were appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

“At this stage there is no evidence to suggest the offenders are the same person, however we are not ruling out that possibility, and would like to speak to anyone who was in the area of the North Stuart Highway at the time of either incident,” Det Sen Const Ward said.

“We have a good description of the alleged offender from the Sunday morning incident. He is described as being a Caucasian male aged in his 30s,  wearing a hat, t-shirt and jeans. Notably, he also had a black and white bandana over his face and was riding a mountain bike.

“Both these incidents are of concern to police and should remind people to avoid walking alone at night where possible, and take a taxi or walk with friends.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
