Water Police are currently conducting a search for a missing yachtsmen who is believed to have fallen overboard from his vessel in the Cape Hotham area.

Senior Constable Michael Wyatt of the Water Police Section said police had reason to believe the man fell from the vessel sometime between October 21 and  October 25.

“Police were alerted after the man’s 12 metre catamaran ‘Screamer’ was located by a helicopter pilot on Tuesday morning,” Senior Constable Wyatt said.

“The vessel was beached in mangroves in Chambers Bay, 100 kilometres from Darwin with nobody aboard. The missing man is believed to have departed Darwin on October 21 to sail solo to Cairns.”

Police request anybody with information on the vessel’s movements to contact them on 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
