Violent disturbance - Palmerston

Police

Detectives from the General Crime Section are calling for public assistance after a number of unlawful entries followed by a violent disturbance in Moulden last night.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Chris Board from the General Crime Section said Police were called to a disturbance on Tiverton Court at approximately 9:47 pm.

"It is alleged that up to 12 men attended a residence on Tiverton Court in a white Isuzu tip-tray truck and drove through the front fence.

"An altercation between the two parties then occurred and upon Police arrival there were up to 30 people fighting in the street, some people armed with machetes and other weapons.

"As a result of the altercation, three men were taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital with injuries. One man has since been discharged.

"Prior to this disturbance occurring, it is alleged that the same men had earlier attended a residence in Driver where they threatened the occupants before attending bottle shops at the Winnellie Hotel and the Hidden Valley Hotel to steal alcohol.

"At approximately 4:30 pm, three men attended a residence in Driver and attempted to entice the male occupant to come out and fight. During this time it is alleged the three men smashed a window of the house and the rear window of a car parked in the drive way before leaving the scene.

"At approximately 5:15 pm, six males attended the Winnellie Hotel bottle-shop and stole alcohol before fleeing the area in a white Isuzu tip-truck.

"At approximately 7:15 pm, up to 12 males attended the Hidden Valley Hotel bottle-shop and stole several bottle of alcohol. They were last seen heading towards Harvey Norman.

"A short time later, it is alleged the Isuzu tip-truck was later used to enter the residence on Tiverton Court.

"Assaults of any kind are unacceptable and it is disturbing to see this type of behaviour occurring in amongst homes with families. This is in on-going dispute between two groups of people that are known to each other.

"No-one has yet been charged but several of the offenders have been identified and will be dealt with during the course of the on-going investigations into the disturbance.

"Police urge anyone who may have witnessed any of the incidents or who observed the white Isuzu tip-truck between the hours of 4:30 pm and 10:30 pm to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000," said Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Board.
