Update # 23 - Overnight Update

Police

Police, Fire and Emergency Services along with Australian Defence Force personnel will continue to clean up and conduct survey and rescue efforts around Darwin and surrounding areas today.

NT Police Survey and Rescue Teams made up of Water Police and Territory Response Group members are currently in Darwin River conducting patrols and surveys of the area.

Authorities did not receive any requests for assistance in the area over night; however five homes are confirmed to have been effected by flooding yesterday.

Members have made contact with victims via helicopter and are currently travelling to the effected houses by quad bike. Initial aerial surveys indicate the water level has dropped significantly and the houses that were inundated with water are now dry.

Adelaide River also experienced flooding over night with the river reaching a peak of 12.27 metres last night at about 10:00pm. The river has receded significantly and there have been no reports of damage or injury.

Local Police are currently assessing the situation at Daly River, where the river has risen significantly over night. The river height is currently at 13.5 metres and the town is beginning to experience low level flooding. Affected residents have been relocated to higher ground within the community.

Although calls to the Joint Emergency Services Communications Centre have eased significantly, authorities continue to attend to fallen trees and power lines throughout Darwin. Members of the public are urged to exercise extreme caution and stay well clear from downed power lines. To report fallen power lines people are urged to call 1800 245 090.

Road conditions continue to change rapidly and numerous roads around Darwin are currently experiencing flooding. For further information on road conditions, people are urged to call 1800 246 199.

To report fallen trees call the Joint Emergency Services Communications Centre on 1800 888 901.
