Update #1 -Suspicious death - Alice Springs

A man is in custody after he was arrested last night in relation to the suspicious death of a woman at a unit in Bloomfield Street, Alice Springs.

Police received a report yesterday just after 1.30pm after a visitor to the unit saw the woman’s body lying inside.

Police found the 36-year-old woman deceased with multiple stab wounds.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant David Richardson  said  police arrested a 43-year-old man in Undoolya Road last night in relation to the suspicious death.

“Our investigations led us to identify a man who could assist us with our inquiries in this matter,” Det A/Sen. Sgt. Richardson said.

“Members of the Southern Investigation Division located the man walking along Undoolya Road just before 6.30pm last night. He was arrested and is yet to be interviewed.”

Det A/Sen.Sgt Richardson said two members of the Major Crime Unit and a forensic biologist from Darwin have flown to Alice Springs today to assist with the investigations.

“At this stage police are still taking statements and interviewing witnesses in what is a complex investigation. We are still appealing to anyone who may have been in the area of the units at 111 Bloomfield Street and noticed any suspicious activity in the last few days to come forward.”
