Alice Springs Police are investigating an unlawful entry and stealing incident that occurred at about 2:00 am this morning at a residence in the Gap area.

Senior Sergeant Darrell Kerr said it appears as though the residence was entered after an unknown person located a spare key hidden outside the residence.

“Once inside, the unknown offender stole a handbag, iPhone3, two sets of keys and an amount of cash.

“The alleged offender was disturbed by an occupant of the house before running out.

“Hiding your house keys outside the house is never a good idea, offenders do look for them and they will find them.

“Even if you think they will never find them in the spot you have hidden them, it is probably the first place they look. Your safest bet is to leave spare keys with trusted friends or neighbours,” said Senior Sergeant Kerr.

Any one who may have any information that may assist Police or sighted any persons acting suspiciously in the area last night are urged to call Police on 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
