Unlawful entries - Alice Springs

Police

Police are again warning residents to secure their homes following three unlawful entries in Alice Springs at the weekend.

Police received a report that a room was unlawfully entered at the Crowne Plaza some time between Friday night and Saturday morning. Offenders appear to have entered the room through an unlocked door and made off with a laptop computer, a mobile phone and a wedding ring. The incident happened some time between 11pm on Friday night and 4.30am on Saturday morning.

Then between 11pm on Saturday and 8am on Sunday a vacant room at the same hotel was unlawfully entered after offenders forced a sliding glass door. The mini bar was reportedly emptied out during this incident.

Superintendent Michael Murphy said police also received a report from a resident in Memorial Drive whose house was unlawfully entered in the early hours of Sunday morning.

“The man was apparently watching television using headphones when an offender entered the house through a toilet window. It appears the offender managed to ransack most rooms in the house before leaving with a car key, some cash and the remote control to the roller door,” Supt Murphy said.

“While unlawful entries have certainly decreased of late, this incident just goes to show that even if you are at home you could still be at risk if you don’t ensure your doors and windows are secured.”
