Unlawful Entries - Alice Springs

Police

Police in Alice Springs are calling for public assistance after a series of break-ins across the town in the past two days.

In the early hours of Wednesday 19 October a unit in Kilgariff Cres was broken into and a white Apple laptop computer stolen.  Also taken was a distinctive white BMX bicycle with orange hubs and green handlebars.

Thieves have used a shovel to force open the back door of a house on Newland Street, Gillen between 11am and 2pm on Wednesday the 19th of October.

An 8GB ipod and a 32GB ipod were stolen along with about $300 in cash.

At about 1am on Thursday October 20 offenders entered the ‘Flavours of India’ restaurant after smashing their way through security screens.  Police attended and with the help of the Dog Unit tracked down a 28-year-old male, a 17-year-old female and a 15-year-old male.

The offenders were allegedly in possession of alcohol stolen from the restaurant.

Around 4am Police were again called to the ‘Flavours of India’ restaurant after the owner, who was attending after the first incident, had quickly returned home.  Offenders had re-entered the restaurant through the same damaged security screens and were observed by the owner leaving the premises on his return.

Police searched the area and arrested three males aged 30, 23 and 19, also allegedly in possession of alcohol stolen from the restaurant.

Superintendent Michael Murphy said it was a good effort by Police.

“The Dog Unit was certainly effective in this case to catch the offenders so quickly.

“It was also a great effort by members to respond to the second incident and come up with a result.  Our team will continue to concentrate on this type of offending, one unlawful entry is one too many.”  Superintendent Murphy added.

Police would like anyone who has information on any of the incidents, or has knowledge of any of the stolen property to please call them on 131 444 or contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
