Two-year-old assaulted – Alice Springs

Police

Police received a report just before 7pm on Monday night from concerned residents who saw the child being thrown around.

Police were told the child was being carried by her step-father at the time of the incident. The man allegedly threw the girl to the ground when she refused to stop crying.

When the child's mother went to ring police the offender picked the girl up from the road and threw her into the air allowing her to fall onto the bitumen again. He then allegedly grabbed her by the wrists and threw her into a stroller. When the unconscious child began falling out of the stroller he picked her up and threw her back into it again a number of times.

Police arrived and the man was arrested. He has been charged with recklessly endangering serious harm. He was refused bail and will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.

The victim was taken to Alice Springs Hospital where she remains in a stable condition.
