Two more arrests for Operation Thresher – Alice Springs

Police

Operation Thresher investigators arrested two youths today after a phone call from a diligent member of the public.

Sergeant Trent Abbott of the Southern Investigations Section said at around midday a neighbour witnessed the suspicious behaviour of two males and immediately called Police.

“The caller remained on the line and was able to provide Police with a running commentary of their movements and a description of their appearance,” said Sergeant Abbott.

“Operation Thresher investigators attended the location and caught the two, aged 16 and 17, in the act of breaking into a residence. Both were conveyed to the Alice Springs Police Station where they remain in custody assisting Police with their enquiries.

“Although the operation only began on 1 December, this now brings Thresher’s total arrests to 19. I urge would-be offenders to re-think their plans as Police are out in force and are only too happy to lock up offenders.

“I would also like to thank the caller for assisting Police and encourage anyone else that may see suspicious behaviour to contact us on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. The community is often our eyes and ears and we greatly appreciate their assistance.”
