Traffic offences -Alice Springs

Police

A 24-year-old woman was fined $980 dollars and lost six demerit points after police apprehended her vehicle in Alice Springs on Friday night.

Sergeant Conan Robertson said police pulled over a Ford Falcon sedan in Lindsay Avenue just before 6pm  and found a back seat passenger holding a seven month old baby in her lap.

“Not only was the baby unrestrained in a capsule as required, but there were two other children sitting in the middle of the back seat, one of whom was also unrestrained,” Sgt Robertson said.

“To make matters worse there was a carton of soft drinks on the back seat which should have been where the unrestrained child was sitting with a properly fitted seat belt.

“It is hard to comprehend that people can be this casual about the lives of young children travelling in motor vehicles. The driver will now have to pay $980 in fines and lose six demerit points.

“We can only hope that this will serve as a warning to other drivers who might contemplate risking their children’s lives like this.”
